Live for God’s Love

Live for God’s Love

‘I Live For Your Love’, was a song by the amazing singer Natalie Cole. Famous in her own right yet daughter of Nat King Cole who wrote the songs, ‘Unforgetable’ and ‘Chestnuts’, which is a song you may hear during Christmas time. ‘I Live For Your Love’, came to mind after I angrily vented to God about my rude and nasty family members. Although in my heart I knew to let it go, my pride was in the way. It just didn’t seem fair. I was being patient and kind while they were mean and inconsiderate. “Well if they want me to be ghetto and rude I can go there”, I told God knowing that would not exemplify His beautiful character. Frustrated I said, “Fine God, I give this over to you!”

After the Holy Spirt sweetly played Natalie Cole’s love song, I thought about the fact that Jesus lived and died for my love. First of all He was born unto a virgin during a time when having a baby out of wedlock was inconceivable. The very fact that Mary never had sex with Joseph prior to birthing Jesus was enough to have her and the baby killed. Second Jesus lived on earth being human and divine. Imagine how humbling it is to have the power to change situations yet respecting man’s free will. Third He decided to submit His fate over to God’s command to die so that we could experience a relationship with true love.
The Lord explained that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all of your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. How are you obeying this when you are busy thinking negative thoughts about your family? ‘Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, boastful, proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance’, (1Corinthians 13:4-7). You and your family are in need of love. So instead of allowing feelings to be hurt by negative words and actions, rest in my love. Show me love by letting go of what they did and focus on how I can love them through you. Woah!!!! My face fell. Then He said, don’t be concerned with how they treat you but how YOU TREAT THEM!!
Wow!!! How foolish had I been. The Bible says we don’t repay evil with evil but evil with good, (1 Peter 3:9). It also says that vengeance is God’s and he will repay, (Romans 12:19). God will fight your battles you be still, stand in love and pay attention.

Our job is not to be concerned about what people do to us. But wait a minute Dana, I have rights! Your only rights are to be in line with the Holy Spirit. If you have an issue with your brother Jesus says in Matthew 18 to go and talk to them. If you have an offering and remember that you have something against your family and friends, be reconciled to them, then give your offering. But when you do speak the truth to them in love so that you may grow up in Christ, (Ephesians 4:15). The Scriptures are clear about how we are to handle conflict. Either you handle It God’s way or be disobedient. One will give victory while the other will not. I decided to let the issue go. I was not expressing my love to God if I held onto what mama and pokie did who ten times out of ten was not walking in the spirit but their flesh. Satan wants to see you jacked up off of his plot and plan but you can choose not to. Instead of getting upset and playing his game do the opposite. Rest in God’s love and allow the Holy Spirit to work on you and the situation. Spend time thanking God for how much he loves you. So much that Christ, his only son lived and died for you. What a price for your love. Focus on what God says about you in the scriptures, how your wall or issues are ever before Him, (Isaiah 49:16) Understand that God fights for you and will perfect those things that concern you, (Psalm 138). Then you go and pray. Pray for the people. Everyone got issues and most of the time it has nothing to do with you. Pray the enemies torment off of them and bask in God’s love for you. Choose to live not seeking revenge but for God’s love.

During this season are you living for God’s love? If not let’s pray:
Heavenly Father thank you for being just a prayer away. Thank you for loving me more than life itself. Father I release the issues I have with others. I choose to meditate on your love for me and stand in love for others. I pray for their healing and deliverance. Lord touch them in their hearts so they can experience real love.Thank you for fighting this spiritual battle for my peace. I choose to trust you. In Jesus name, amen.

If you have not made Jesus The Lord of your life, pray this prayer with me: ‘Jesus I need you. Come into my heart. Let’s walk this life together. I receive that you are God, came to this earth to redeem me and died on the cross for my eternity. I surrender to you and I make you my Lord and savior.’

Let Jesus Take the Wheel

Let Jesus Take the Wheel
By Dana Rainey

Have you ever asked God what is the meaning of life, why are you here, or what is your purpose? Do you find yourself trying to figure out life? Do you want to participate in everything, work as much as you can because life is meaningless unless you are involved in something, even if it is out of the will of God?

I was that person. Always running around getting into everything because I wanted to feel significant. When I wasn’t doing anything, I felt like a big failure. Although I was in 3 dance ministries, worked 6 jobs, took dance class, was in a community group, graduate school, relationship, choreographing, ministering all over, and trying to have a social life, I felt unproductive. I wanted to live life to the fullest, in abundance, and until it overflowed, as Jesus promised in John 10. Yet, at the end of the day, I was tired, frustrated, stressed and ready to quit. A few years ago I had 2 panic attacks because the responsibilities were overwhelming. Finally I reached the end of myself. After having a dream about trying to drive a car, with no license, and in the wrong lane, I said Jesus take the wheel. I am done trying to figure life out. You drive!!

Jesus said, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

Where are you?
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?” The first thing Jesus asked is how are you feeling? We have to locate ourselves. For a long time I was in denial. I told myself, because of Jesus, I am great and all is well. However, I really wasn’t and I couldn’t admit to myself or others that I was on the verge of a breakdown. That may sound strange to some but many people feel that if they admit they are weak then it could show that God is not working through them or they are not spiritually mature. People are labeled and looked down upon by fellow Christians who look and sound like they have it all together. We must be honest about where we are, that we can not do life by ourselves and that we need help from God. If you are in denial, then you will come to Jesus that way, expecting Him to be pleased with your life demands. I was like that. While spending time with the Lord I wanted Him to meet My agenda. Yet I had to realize that I needed him to give me plans and without his touch or grace, they were doomed to fail. During our time together, I came to Jesus with a smile and expressed my gratitude yet neglected to give Him my pain, hurt and hunger for the meaning of my life.

Be With Jesus
“Come to me. Get away with me…. ” The next thing He says is to come and go away with Him. This requires time spent in the presence of The Lord. How often do you take the time to be with Jesus? When Jesus came to Mary and Martha’s house, Martha was busy working, thinking that she had to perform and make things happen while Mary was chillin at the feet of Jesus. Mary was living life with Christ, recognizing the beauty of His presence and resting in Him. When Martha asked Jesus why He was not getting on Mary for sitting around and ‘doing nothing’, Jesus said that Mary did the wise thing. She spent time at the feet of Jesus, (Luke 10:41-42).

Are you like Mary or Martha? How do you spend your time in the presence of the Lord? Are you thinking and doing other things or genuinely laying at His feet to listen with your heart? Do you pour out your concerns, issues, shortcomings then go to the word to embrace His answers? Jesus wants your honest prayers and your willingness to hear Him through the word in spirit and in the truth. This is the key to knowing who you are, where you are and what to do. This is vital for life.

Jesus Promises Our Recovery
“You’ll recover your life.” From spending quality time with Jesus, He will recover your life. You make mistakes and it may seem like your life is a mess but be encouraged because Jesus is the God of restoration, (Joel 2:25-26). After having so many responsibilities and being embarrassed by the lack of excellence in my work, all I could do was give them to Jesus. Slowly and surely, He repaired the damage I did and He is currently restoring all the blessings that I missed trying to do things my way.

Jesus Is Our Rest
“I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me.” Jesus promises to give us rest. One time I was in prayer with Jesus because I was very hurt by someone in church. The person, who was a leader, blatantly disrespected me. Trying to have peace about the situation, I gave it all to God, begging for help to get over it. That was when the scripture came to my mind about rest. It was as if a burden was taken off of my shoulders. I decided to take on ‘the rest’ that Jesus promised by letting the issue go, recognizing that Jesus forgives me all the time and realizing that they have an issue. He told me to forgive the person and pray for their deliverance as I received His grace to help me. We can enter into the rest of God for every situation. Jesus will show us how if we let Him. Have you gone to Jesus for rest?

Jesus Wants to Show You What to Do
“Watch how I do it”. Jesus understands what it is like to be busy. He taught and managed 72 disciples, rebuked many of Pharisees and Sadducees, healed and delivered towns full of people, taught in Synagogues, dealt with knowing that death was soon to come, and spent time with God. Jesus had responsibilities. Amen! Yet responsibilities did NOT own Him because He did the perfect will of God, (John 5:19). His life had significance because He only did what His father told Him to do, nothing more and nothing less.

I use to be frustrated because I wanted to hear from God and it seemed like He was nowhere to be found. I listened for direction until finally I made a decision for myself. Then I fell flat on my face. I would explain to the Lord that I waited for an answer but never got one. Yet no answer is an answer. It means for you to be still.

God is always guiding our lives and knows you better than you know yourself, (Psalms139). We have to trust Him leading us through the Holy Spirit. Whether it is by the scriptures, an inner sense or peace, God will provide the answer. Even If you do not hear in that moment what you should do, continue to wait on Him. He will answer. I had to learn to wait even if it was taking forever. I trusted God to answer in His time.

Jesus teaches Grace
“Learn the unforced rhythms of grace”. Grace makes us capable of doing anything God calls for us to do. If what you are doing seems to be crumbling apart, either ask The Lord if His grace is on the task or decide to rely on His grace to help you with the task. If it was not for Gods grace, with all that I put on my plate I would have become a hermit and abandoned all responsibilities. I was almost at that point until I decided to lean on grace. I told The Lord, that I needed help, messed up and made mistakes. Life is too hard and I can’t do it on my own. That was when revelation began to kick in. I got wisdom on what to do and how to do it. Jesus began to lift my heavy load.

“I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.”
Coming to Jesus is the real way to live. All of the toiling without Him is meaningless- a chasing after the wind,(Ecclesiastes). When Jesus gives us an assignment, we can bear it. Even if it feels difficult in the moment we can count it all joy because we are developing through it, (James 1:2-8). We can trust that Jesus gives us peace, love, joy, comfort, security, wholeness in all things. He provides us with wisdom, knowledge and understanding to make the right decisions. When I decided to live life Jesus’s way, it became meaningful. I am no longer doing as much but only what I know in my knower the Lord is calling me to do. I get up everyday and humbly ask the Lord what will you have for me to do today? Then I submit for the answer. When It seems like the Lord is not speaking, I continue to press on and eventually, hear from Him to do this, say that, make a right, left, etc. The Lord loves you and He will lead you to where you need to go, trust Him. Do not doubt that your life and times are in His hands, (Psalm 31:5). Look forward to spending time in His presence because there awaits the answers. He will give them to you.

“Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly”.
Our time with Jesus is vital. The author of life wants to share life with you. Let’s make a commitment to be with the Lord, lay at His feet and receive His significance, value and worth. Trust in His loving guidance and believe that He will change our lives.

Figuring out life is emotionally draining, physically taxing and can lead to serious issues. Your body, soul and spirit were not meant to carry the loads of life. Let’s pray:

‘Lord Jesus I come to you for help and guidance, letting go of my plans and purpose to completely surrender to you. Take the wheel of my heart and drive my life to where you purpose for it to go.I will listen, surrender and trust you one day at a time. Thank you Jesus. Amen.
